GRAPES: Sangiovese 100%
VINEYARD: “vecchia” vineyard
Planted by Grandpa Amedeo way back in 1968 when the so-called “cuttings” from nurseries didn’t exist yet, so “wild” vines were planted, and the varieties and clones that existed in our area for centuries were grafted the following year
YEARS PLANTED: 1968
EXPOSURE: Northwest
TRAINING TYPE: double-arched cane
HARVEST AND VIGNIFICATION: it takes place at two different times. One part is collected in pans and placed in the “fruttaio” room, where it is left to dry for about a month and then vinified. The other part of the grapes is collected and vinified according to tradition. The two wines obtained in this way are assembled when placed in the Tonneaux for long, slow ageing.
AGEING: 20-22 months in Allier French oak Tonneaux and 4 months in the bottle
ALCOHOL: 15% vol.
COLOUR: very dense and impenetrable ruby-red
BOUQUET: a delightful combination of floral notes that are still intact despite the ageing, with aromas of ripe blackberries and a refreshing spicy note
FLAVOUR: it certainly cannot be said that it lacks impact. It has texture, tannins and a mineral quality. It is convincing now, and very promising for the future.
